Speaker Bios

 Charlie Arehart
Charlie Arehart, Founder/CTO of Systemanage, is an Allaire Certified Developer and Instructor who may be best known for his monthly "Journeyman" column in the ColdFusion Developer's Journal (CFDJ). He has also contributed to several other magazines and books.

With nearly 20 years experience in enterprise IT he's a highly regarded consultant, providing coaching/training services to development teams large and small, and a frequent speaker to CF User Groups (CFUGs) and developer conferences throughout the country.

 Raymond Camden
Raymond Camden is a software engineer for Macromedia. He is coauthor of the Mastering ColdFusion 5 and the Allaire Spectra e-Business Construction Kit.

He helps manage the Hampton Roads ColdFusion User Group (www.hrcfug.org) and is the creator and co-maintainer of the Common Function Library Project (www.cflib.org).

Adam Churvis
Adam Churvis is a database and scalability specialist with twenty years of software industry experience in many languages and database platforms. He is the founder and President of Productivity Enhancement, a full-service consulting, training, and commercial software development firm which is entering its eighteenth year in business. Productivity Enhancement is also the parent company of ColdFusionTraining.com and CommerceBlocks.com.

Adam is the principle author of the upcoming book "The ColdFusion MX Bible" from Wiley Publishing, and also serves as a current board member and former President of the Atlanta ColdFusion User Group, and he enjoys speaking at other CFUGs as well.

Sandra Clark

Sandra Clark, an advanced Macromedia Certified ColdFusion developer, and CFUG speaker is president of Shayna Productions (www.shayna.com), a Maryland-based ColdFusion consulting company.

She has contributed material for the ColdFusion 5.0 Certified Developer Study Guide published by Syngress Media/Osborne McGraw Hill and contributes to the ColdFusion Developers Journal. Contact her at [email protected].

Michael Dinowitz

Michael Dinowitz has dedicated the last five years of his life to the ColdFusion community and it doesn't look like he's stopping any time soon. His accomplishments include: Head of RT&T (Research, Training & TroubleShooting) for House of Fusion / CoreActive Hosting the high volume CF-Talk list (as well as others) out of House of Fusion (www.houseoffusion.com) Publishing the Fusion Authority weekly news alert (www.fusionauthority.com/alert) Writing many articles for the above magazine as well as many others Co-Author of the best selling CF web application construction kits Videos, teaching, presentations and more Whether its researching the lowest levels of ColdFusion functionality or presenting to an audience, Michael's passion for the language is clear to see. Outside of Allaire, there are few evangelists as dedicated to the spread of the language and the strengthening of the community.
Steve Drucker
Steve Drucker is the CEO of Fig Leaf Software with offices in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. Fig Leaf is Macromedia Premier Partner Company and Authorized Macromedia Training Center.

Steve founded the very first Cold Fusion users group in May 1996, co-authored the book "The Cold Fusion Web Database Construction Kit" 1st & 2nd Edition w/Ben Forta, frequently contributes to the "Cold Fusion Developers Journal Magazine", and is a certified Allaire instructor.

Benjamin Elmore
Benjamin is the Chief Technology Officer at RemoteSite Technologies, Inc. His expertise regarding web development technologies and the associated market was instrumental in defining the functionality of RemoteSite's flagship content management system, "OASIS", currently in use within New York State government.

RemoteSite was recently engaged by the Macromedia Corporation to provide guidance regarding the use of their latest technologies within the Dylan 65 project, with Ben specified as the requisite lead within the associated contract document. Benjamin serves as the lead engineer, responsible for architecting the project's workflow and publishing sub-systems utilizing Macromedia's pre-release "NEO" technology. In this role, he has worked directly with the CTO of Macromedia, providing feedback regarding the need for enhanced features and functionality within their emerging technology - ultimately assisting Macromedia with the evolution of that technology in preparation for its pending market debut.

A member of the Board of Advisors for the Albany ColdFusion User Group, and a certified instructor, he is an active promoter of technological excellence. He has been an uncompensated speaker at many User Groups across the nation as well at various international vendor developer conferences, including Rational Software, Macromedia, and Sybase.

Ben Forta
Ben Forta is Macromedia Inc's Senior Product Evangelist. In that capacity he gets to spend a considerable amount of time talking and writing about ColdFusion, and providing feedback to help shape the future direction of the product.

He is the author of books on ColdFusion, HomeSite (Macromedia's award winning HTML editor), Macromedia Spectra, SQL, Windows 2000, JSP, WAP and more. Before joining Macromedia (well, Allaire actually, and then Macromedia and Allaire merged) he helped found a company called Stoneage.com which provides automotive services (buy a car, sell a car, etc) over the Web. Stoneage is one of the largest automotive web sites out there, and it is written entirely in ColdFusion.

He owns EmTek Systems - a consulting and custom software development company. Most of EmTek's work has been custom development, but a year or so ago it released a couple of ColdFusion add-on's (CFX_Spell and CFX_Zip).

Shlomy Gantz is an independent technology and management consultant . He was formerly the co-founder and vice president of technology for CoreActive ACG., and Chief Developer for Melig, Ltd.

He has over a decade of application development experience, and an extensive background in database development and project management. He has written articles and presented in conferences and various user groups. He was also the technical editor for "Mastering cold fusion 4.5".

Hal ([email protected]) is a developer/strategist who writes on development issues within the ColdFusion community. He is a TeamAllaire member and speaks frequently on successful development with Fusebox.

He is a monthly columnist with "ColdFusion Developer's Journal" and is writing a book on ColdFusion for Prentice Hall to be published in February, 2001. He holds training/mentoring classes for companies who want a proven method for developing Web applications. 

Robi Sen
Robi Sen
Robi Sen is the Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Software Development at Granularity, Inc. Mr. Sen has been working professionally in the software development world for the last 13 years since he was recruited at the age of 16 to develop software systems for Westinghouse Hanford Co and the Defense Department. He worked for Westinghouse and various government programs on and off for 5 years.

Mr. Sen's chief areas of interest are in the creation of a new breed of network-based applications and the development of "Intelligent Agents" or software systems which can interact with humans and other machines in a "thoughtful manner" making context appropriate decisions for their user without having to receive instructions from their user. He has spoken widely on these topics and has most recently presented a series of classes to the American Management Association entitled Electronic Commerce. He is also currently working on a book with G. Hussain Chinoy for Morgan Kaufmann Publishers entitled "XML/EDI: The Future of Electronic Commerce" as well as finishing a book on Allaire's ColdFusion called Developing ColdFusion Applications.

Michael Smith
Michael Smith
Michael Smith is President of TeraTech, a 13-year old Rockville, Maryland consulting company that specializes in web and database development. TeraTech has developed sophisticated data-driven web sites for a wide range of organizations, from corporations to government agencies. In addition to ColdFusion, the TeraTech staff also have extensive experience in SQL databases, ASP, HTML, Access, Foxpro, Visual Basic and more.Michael has been programming for over 20 years and has been coding in ColdFusion since version 1.5 six years ago. He has an MA and BA from Cambridge University, England and graduated in the top 10 of his year.

Michael runs the Maryland ColdFusion User Group and organized three very successful CF events including CFUN-2k with 700 attendees. Michael volunteers at ByteBack, a non profit organization which provides computer training for unemployed and under-employed inner city residents. He also is a frequent contributor to Fusion Authority, the ColdFusion Developer Journal and the CPCUG monitor.

Kevin Towes

Kevin Towes is co-founder and CTO of Pangaea NewMedia in Toronto, Canada. Kevin's professional production experience includes film, photography, sound and 3D animation coupled with database and software development. Pangaea's unique approach has made it a leader in the convergence of web, wireless and interactive television.

Kevin has played a strong role in the ColdFusion community for the past three years. He is a certified ColdFusion Developer and has lead his team at Pangaea to achieve much success with Macromedia Products. Recently, Kevin's company was awarded the Beta prize for best use of ColdFusion 5 -pre-release where they deployed six websites simultaneously using ColdFuions 5 one month prior to launch. In addition Kevin teaches part time at Ryerson University in Toronto and manages one of the largest ColdFusion developer User Groups in the world.
