Part 1.)
I’m having trouble understanding the evaluate function, especially when it is nested. There’s an example in the Certified, Macromedia , ColdFusion, Developers Study Guide, by Ben Forta, on page 150, that doesn’t work. (Or maybe, I copied the code wrong?)
In that example, there is one argument with two expressions.
Here’s the whole snippet:
#FORM.expression# equals #result#
#IIf(bCompleted,"'Expression Evaluated'", "'Not Evaluated'")#
Doesn’t work. Is there a mistake in the code in the book?
Part 2.)
If I make it two arguments:
It does work But also, if I take the nested Evaluate function wrapper from the variable, it still works.
So it works with or without the nested Evaluate().
Why nest?

How can I avoid a modification Anomalies (update query) in SQL when using CF as front-end application?
On my databases design I include a columns called last_update in all tables. Before I run an update query, I comapare the last_update date/time when retrive with the one in the table to make sure they match.
Is there any other way to do it to save a round trip?.
I have not read any article talking about the ColdFusion and modification Anomalies.

How can I convince my company to continue to support CF when they state that they can use JSP or .Net which have greater industry support and are more reliable and scalable then CF will ever be. Cost is not an issue since we use WebLogic for JSP so it is not free vs pay. We are looking at Blue Dragon instead of CF for it WAR/EAR deployment

The Google web service API returns a custom datatype, which contains a custom datatype that is an array of custom datatypes.
I want to do the same thing with some of my web services in order to return a query and some metadata in a portable fashion. So far, I've been unable to figure out how.
My current solution returns a custom datatype, and one of the fields is an array, in which I insert an Array of Structures, using the CFLIB.org function QueryToArrayOfStructures. This works well when the web service is consumed by CF and Flash, but other languagues don't understand the Structure or "MAP" data type that it creates.

You don't need to be using fusebox methodology, either.
Another question, if I read the documentation correctly (http://livedocs.macromedia.com...), it seems that the accept attribute of the cffile tag actually uses file extensions to determine MIME types... why then can't we simply enter file extensions? And what about Macs, on which users can apparently create documents with no file extensions? And why not also include an attribute for what NOT to allow?
Third question, and then I'm done. Do we still need to lock persistent-scope variables, or only sometimes, or not at all? I keep seeing contradictory information.
